"Arelate" was the Roman name for Arles,
a city in southern France.  It is pronounced
Are-eh-lah-teh.  Arelate Studio derives from the
days when I was studying the Merovingians,
a Germanic tribe who lived there.

A putto is a chubby male child, usually nude and sometimes with wings, found in Renaissance art.  A mermaid has the head and torso of a human female and the tail of a fish.  A siren is a human female, with or without wings, with the legs of a bird.  A creature which is part female human, part bird, and part fish is simply a drollery, a siren gone bad.
